Visual Art – Los Angeles

It was January 2016 when it happened. A storm of circumstances that would lead to where I am now. I had been successfully hypnotized to quit smoking. I began Kosun Rufu and started chanting twice a day...and I just turned 50..a lucky number for me. Life was good and getting better. This is when a fluke happened. I have a friend Mary who is 76 years old and has eye cancer. She is in a lot of pain and takes pain medication in a couple of doses a day. In between doses she is still terribly uncomfortable so I was trying to think of something we could do to distract her from the pain. She mentioned that as a girl she used to enjoy sketching. I thought great! I hadn't sketched since I was 14. I was going to sign us up for a sketch class but there weren't any, only acrylic paint on canvas. At first we hesitated having never painted a day in our lives, but we signed up for 5 Fridays 3 hours a day. We were really nervous so I said before class "look we suck now we can only get better'. Ive always been attracted to female nudes from the early 1900's to 1920's. They are soft and pink and I wondered what was going on in their lives that they would pose nude for pictures to be taken. This was unheard of back then. So, I was always attracted to that kind of art. The first day I started off with a sketch on my canvas. Then I had to paint it! I had never painted in my life before so when I saw that I was good at it, it surprised both Mary and me. I kept painting and couldn't stop. In only three months I had completed over 50 paintings. Mary was still working on her first one so we knew something unusual was happening. I shared my story at a buddhist meeting and everyone was impressed that I painted so many in such a short amount of time. It was when I showed my book of paintings that my friend literally fell off her chair in shock! She and her husband are art lovers and they couldn't believe what they were witnessing. With that they encouraged me to get involved in the art community and so I did. I was so inspired that now a little over a year later I now have 100 plus paintings and Im working on my second book. I also started posting on Instagram and that is where RAWartists discovered me. And so here I am now, showing what I like to call The Ladies of the Canvas. They are all special to me and I hope you will enjoy them as well.
