ABOUT

I'm Lauren E. Anthony and I grew up in Denver, Colorado. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated by art. I was always creating, whether it was on paper or making up new games, costumes, and plays. I took my first painting class during my senior year of high school. I was very inspired by my high school painting teacher and by having traveled to Italy. That long year was very bumpy and troublesome; the only things that kept up my spirits were painting and my wonderful group of friends. Ever since then, ink and paint have been the blood in my veins. I covered my notebooks with doodles, even spent some time in detention for drawing on desks. My work is mostly improvisation. I thrive on adventure, living in the moment, and leaping into something without an expected outcome. I try to flow with that natural rhythm in my paintings. My momentary thoughts plan my paintings and my hands spill them out. Randomness sparks an exhilarating sort of creativity that settles in my skin--seeing how one thing builds off of another. Creating something helps me have more of a sense of purpose; life never makes sense, but when I have a brush in my hand I don't have to make sense of anything. To me, it is freedom. The world is all around us, and there are also endless worlds inside of us. My paintings all have emotional meaning to me, but what inspires me the most is seeing others' reactions to my work. The best thing about showing a painting is sparking others' imaginations. I hope that art can lead me to more adventures, beautiful people, but mostly finding out more about myself.
