Leonardo Cruz Melo

Visual Art – Orange County

Leonardo C. Melo is a self-taught, local up-and-coming Contemporary abstract artist. Born and raised in Mexico City until the age of 13, he has lived most of his life in Santa Ana, Ca. Influenced by the variety of infinite colors, the works of Salvador Dali, the vision of Pablo Picasso and mainly the unorthodox use of the paint by Jackson Pollock. Leonardo’s work is about experimentation, creating without any rules and allowing the creative mind to flow. His work is mainly based on not using many brush strokes, or any other tools for that matter to move the paint around, therefore creating a style with the philosophy of allowing the paint to move around and knowing that we have only so much control over it. The passion and constant evolution that great chefs use in the culinary arts such as Grant Achatz, Francis Mallman, and most definitely Ferran Adria, are an inspiration to the constant growth of his artwork. Yoga, Music, and meditation play a major role on the creative side of Leonardo, thus allowing him to create from a place of peace and mindfulness and project that from the mind onto the canvas
