Lindsay DeAlba

Visual Art – San Francisco

Lindsay DeAlba is a gal that would rather wear flowers in her hair than diamonds around her neck, dance to life a little off beat, and take time to explore adventures-smiling. The San Carlos native, celebrating her 30 years of color and chaos, has already experienced a rich life, newly coined wife, 2004 Greek Olympian, 2006 California Berkeley Alumni, has traveled all over the world playing softball, feasting on foreign foods, and indulging in new cultures filled with history, politics, and beauty. As Lindsay’s story continues to grow and evolve, the one thing that will always be concrete is her paint-brush-equipped hand. As early as her family can remember Lindsay was always in search of the perfect place to pen her chaotic thoughts. She filled journals with fierce excitement, sketches and doodles that would later be transformed into paintings. Her mind ran marathons, paced by kooky creations, and odd project ideas. Luckily, her parents were supportive in nurturing her artistic interest because they also shared the love for creating. Mother Kristie James is a practicing painter, food photographer, and recycle artist, and father Joe James is a talented carpenter and wood worker. While Attending UC Berkeley on a softball scholarship she minored in art history, which allowed her to practice and study many genres of art. Famous artists such as Vincent Van Gough and Henri Matisse’s use of shapes, colors, and fluidity have heavily influenced Lindsay’s style. Lindsay’s artistic philosophy is, that art is “Cheap Therapy” for the creator and it’s admirers. Art can be a window to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ultimately- provokes thinking. Lindsay believes that her art is meant to cheer up any space, and add a little sunshine on a cloudy day. Her latest pieces reflect a child-like simplicity. The work shows concentration on saturated hues with obsessive work within the negative spaces, and brushwork of dashes and dots to create movement. Her painting subjects are based on everyday life or candy-colored dreams that pop in her head. Each piece is a beat to her heart, jelly to her peanut butter, jack to her coke, a trip, a moment, a feeling-anything that has made her smile. Currently Lindsay is working as a freelance painter, and educator at The Bridge School. She is also completing her credential and masters in special education at Notre Dame De Namur. Future plans and interests include: Traveling more and creating a non-profit art program for adults with disabilities.
