NYANGA creations

My name is Marie, and I’m the designer behind NYANGA creations (pronounced nee-yan-gah). I’m originally from Cameroon, where “Make Nyanga” is a common expression meaning anything having to do with looking good and feeling good about yourself. It\'s the same thing as saying “Turn your swag on.” My designs are a blend of African and western styles and materials, which essentially reflects my life experience and growth into the person I am today. I have been designing since I was a child with much support from my mother who always encouraged me to design my own dresses. What I love most about being a fashion designer is being able to see my ideas come to life. Invention is a form of human expression and for me, fashion design is one of the many ways I choose to express myself. My main inspiration is the everyday person. People everywhere are searching for ways to express their individuality and clothes are almost always the first thing to make an impression. In a nutshell, I design for any individual who can find self-expression in my clothing. To me, good fashion sense, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, so an outfit that I find absolutely breathtaking might easily be a severe eyesore to the next person. Understanding this has given me much freedom in what I do. My motto is “Dare to be different: Make NYANGA” and it is with this in mind that I create the things that
