Mango Rains

Fashion – Brisbane

Being lucky enough to live, work and travel throughout Africa for almost 2 years was incredible. However being able to experience firsthand the level of poverty, the inadequate education and lack of opportunities available there, particularly for women, was more mind blowing, especially after growing up in such a privileged country like Australia. At the same time, the beauty of the coloured wax print fabrics that the women wore was a sensory overload and it was hard not to buy up every piece that was offered! Putting two and two together resulted in a light bulb moment that has unfolded into ‘Mango Rains’, fashion with a twist and a conscience! Quirky and simple garments designed and made in Australia for Australians, but here’s the twist…. clothes are made from African wax print fabric with every cent of Net Profit from every sale going back to help educate and train the women in developing nations. With projects initially being in East and West Africa, discussions are already under way for SE Asia, the Middle East and parts of South America. So not only are our super talented Australian tailors, seamstresses and pattern makers getting work, but the women in disadvantaged countries are getting training and education to help support themselves and their families. You don’t just have to look awesome on the outside, you can also feel pretty good on the inside as well!
