Mel Maton

Photography – Long Beach

Melanie Maton was born in Southern California in 1981, attending the University of San Francisco and California College of Arts she was apart of the Dual Degree Program with a focus in Graphic Design in 1999. Throughout her educational career she grew fond of fine art photography. She religiously recorded her experiences writing in a journal. Realizing a constant theme presented itself, a void she could not define. To explore ways to fill this void she moved from SF to NY. After several years she did not discover her passion for photography until after her move from NY back to LA in 2008. Determined for a new endeavor she signed up for photography courses. Her work portrays absence and presence.  A photographic journal containing a series of self portraits defining sweet nothings. Happiness around every corner. Taking a stroll on foot or by bike, she meanders about discovering new locations that would normally be missed or ignored driving through her neighborhood. She documents these environments using multiple exposure and black and white photography. Capturing the essence of existence. Her love for life through photography is what fuels her work. Melanie's fine art photography has been shown at multiple Midnight Spirographs exhibits in the Downtown LA area.
