Visual Art – Philadelphia

I'm a visual artist living in Philadelphia, who has also spent time in Pittsburgh and Ithaca, NY. My art tends to extract significant forms (usually people) from my life and clash them back together in a way that changes the narrative. I hope to take a very personal image and translate it into something more universal. When drawing a portrait, I try to look at a subject objectively, breaking the image down into concrete areas of tone. I draw those areas, forcing myself to trust my ability to capture it accurately by drawing with an indelible marker or heavy-handed pencil line. Then, I fill in those chunks, sometimes with collage, sometimes with watercolor or acrylic, sometimes with photos.
