Music – Phoenix

Mister Lucky is an Indie Roots Rock band based in Phoenix, Arizona. In the spring of 2013, Singer/Songwriter Douglas Preston was regrouping following the breakup of his previous band, The Low Men. Along with drummer Phil Popovitch, bassist Ricky Powell, and local producer/guitarist Jack Howell, Preston started writing and rehearsing new material. Leaning more toward Adult Oriented Rock (#dadrock), the songs were a departure from his previous bands more jangle/power-pop tunes. Opening for national touring act American Aquarium was the highlight of their many local performances. 2014 saw the release of a double single, titled “Double A-Side”, followed by performances across the southwest United States including a RAW Artists Showcase and sets at the 2014 Sidepony Express Music Festival in Bisbee, AZ. 2015 found Mister Lucky performing as a trio following the departure of founding member Jack Howell. Their second release, a three song EP titled “Tyrant”, was dropped that spring and was followed by shows in Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson, and El Paso, TX. The band also performed sets at the 2015 Sidepony Express Music Festival and the International Pop Overthrow Festival. This year’s addition of multi-instrumentalist Jeff Hutcherson finds the band performing as a quartet again. The group is currently working on their first full length release, due in late summer, tentatively titled “Keep On Shining”. The songs on this record reflect the core sound of previous releases but feature more textural and experimental elements.
