Rickey Mizuno

Photography – Los Angeles

Hello World! My name is Rickey Mizuno and I am an artist, photographer, camera man, kind of your all around digital guru. When I was 10 years old, I got my first 35mm film camera. The process of freezing the world around me and the anticipation of getting film back from the lab became part of life, not just a hobby. My photography is fairly broad and has led me from working with different newspaper publications, to covering weddings all over the southland, and of course just shooting for the love of it. Right now I’m on a Vogue-esque kick and find myself influenced by a lot of high fashion photography. The technical control required mixed with the total freedom within this genre lends itself to endless creative possibilities. The mixture of beautiful photography with beautiful people and clothing, I think, makes this the pinnacle of staged photography. I studied cinema in school so I naturally approach photos with a bit of filmic flare; sometimes trying to tell a story with one photograph, and sometimes just trying to punch you in the face! I really love the total process: capturing an image, digital/optical manipulation and delivery on the most appropriate format for a particular image. All the while striking a balance between strict planning and execution with the spontaneity and randomness that comes with this territory. In this age of cell phone cameras, instant gratification, and sensory overload, sometimes slowing down like that 10 year old kid with a clunky camera is the best way to go. Thanks for stopping by my page! Cheers.
