Photography – Portland

I tend to make art to satisfy some sort of personal psychological confusion or struggle. I can only hope that my work makes the viewer feel less lonely in their thoughts, realizing that it is only our minds with which we fight. Memories are the key source of our pain and happiness, showing themselves at the most unusual times. With photography, I have the ability to freeze memories and am given the opportunity to relive them in my mind. Without memories, we would not think of those we have lost, those we will lose, and those whom we dream of. Social isolation and discomfort are key factors in my work, to allude to the pain that memories can bring. In some cases, it becomes difficult to discern memories, causing the mind to falsely rebuild those memories and create an illusion in our minds. By using double exposures and transparent layering in my photography, I am able to recreate and alter memories to reference this idea.
