Visual Art – San Diego

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2008 with a B.A in Studio Art and English. Post-college I discovered that I am most interested in creating work that explores love, the thing that makes life beautiful. “Patriot Hearts” series description: Living in San Diego, a vibrant military hub, I find myself surrounded both casually and intimately with young men and women in the military. Their zeal for what they do, protecting our nation by land, sea and sky, radiates from their very presence. Whether they are or were a fighter pilot, an infantryman or a seal, they are all one thing - proud. Their pride for what they do lies in the romantic notion of America in its pure and ideal form, as a beautiful place where life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are attainable. Because they sacrifice their lives in 7-month stretches, foregoing the love of family and friends for the love of their country, that dream is a reality for many Americans. These artworks strive to depict the dual romantic relationships inherent in their occupations - one with their boyfriend or girlfriend, wife or husband, and one with their country. Memories of \"farewells\" and \"welcome homes\" will arise for some. Each embrace, romp and glance is the essence of someone\'s story.
