I tend to draw inspiration from a variety of sources ranging from the Psychoanalytists (Freud and Jung), the Vienna Aktionists (Brus and Schwarzkogler), the Existentialists (Nietzsche and Kierkegaard), Abstract Expressionists (Keifer and Rothko), Avant-Garde (Man Ray and Duchamp), Visionary photographers (Witkin and Saudek), and lastly traditional mythology and cultures primarily Greek, Egyptian and Tibetan.
I have always had a deep respect and adoration for the classic photographic process; I still utilize it however and whenever I can. In addition, I enjoy working in alternative processes as well, to incorporate an element of antiquity to the work I do. An alchemical mix of ritual and process are infinitely important in the work I create. The precise and sensitive natures of these processes are exactly what makes them so desirable for me. Lastly, the presentation of the final image is as important to this whole process as the initial image itself.
Every image, on some level, is a self-portrait. Each aesthetic experience, whether as an artist, a subject or a viewer, is a chance to face one’s demons and accept them for what they are. I believe my work gives voice to something that is unspoken but common simply by engaging that person.
