You know when spring finally hits, and the world around you is filled with color and light? When every shade of green you could imagine explodes from the earth and tulips paint oceans of color to push away the winter? That is what I love and I work to include that sense of vibrancy and life into my art. I love color and have been passionate about art as far back as kindergarten. I pursued that passion into college and in 2006 graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts.
I draw strong influences from the Art Nouveau style as well as contemporary pop and illustration, and together they meet in beauty. The only thing I love more than color is stories. Tales in any form are my bread and butter. Books, movies, video games, graphic novels, music. I love narrative and stories and as such, my subject matter focuses primarily on humans. Landscapes are beautiful, if a bit dull and I'd rather eat a bowl of fruit than paint it. People, in all their wonderful, messy glory.
My work has been featured in Art Trader Magazine (http://www.arttradermag.com) where I've met a fantastic online art community. Original art and prints are available to purchase from my etsy store (http://www.etsy.com/shop/MermaidLovesOctopus) and I am available for commission work. I enjoy doing portraiture work of original and fictional characters. To see more of my work and follow what I'm up to, check out my blog at http://mermaidlovesoctopus.blogspot.com. Cheers!
