This collection finds itself the product of my Minneapolis home combined with weeks spent on the road exploring little-toured western and midwestern corners - some were pristine deserts stretching from Utah to Nevada, others were feral remains of abandoned houses and garages. A furniture designer by study and trade, I am drawn to structure and form. I brought this framework to my paintings, and combined it with color and texture to form the visual representation of my process of internalizing the travel.
I create the foundation of my paintings by examining textures and patterns. I build upon several layers that form a cohesive plane, and also interact with each other. I am inspired by geometry and biology; repeating shapes are the most elementary piece of our makeup, but also extend into complex landscapes. Curiosity, sexuality, and human nature are muses, and their images form arousing compositions that express the human interaction with our biological environment.
