ART: Shane Lavery

Written by

See artist Shane Lavery's work at the next RAW showcase in Downtown San Diego on Thursday, October 28th at the Se Hotel!

This show would consist of mixed media pieces, oil, acrylic, collage spray paint, and what ever else I can find.  It's kinda like dirty pop art.  I prefer to paint only with oil, but times is hard, my career is going no where, so I'm reduced to cheaper paint.  But that's the test of an artist, to take something of no value and try to make something someone out there enjoys.  I'm sick of seeing a bunch of wanna be tokidoki/kidrobot biters.  I'm sure we could overanalyze any artist and say they are coping something, myself included.  I just try to have fun, even if my narrative might not be.

I draw my inspiration from everything in life. I enjoy painting because it's always a one-of-a-kind piece; everything is an experiment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it will kinda work but the composition is off so you got to paint over it. It's like killing babies, in that the art is your kid and you may have to scrap an idea and take it in a whole different direction. I'm inspired by contemporary artists, street artists, Renaissance painters - there is so much talent out there. I'm a new member to the diamond dog crew, its an exclusive artist collective, bursting at the seams with all types of artists, primarily visual, but there are also musicians.
