MUSIC: Jonathan King

Written by

Jonathan King aims to put out "great songs, positive messages, and lots and lots of groove." Hear him perform live at the next RAW showcase in Downtown Los Angeles at Elevate Lounge on Thursday, October 14th!

Starting at the age of five, with the classical study of piano, I recognized early that my love for music would also signify my calling to serve the public by fueling parties all over with my special brand of energetic music. Influenced by the high energy funk artists of the 70's, I formed my first band at the age of fourteen. While learning from the top producers in the industry, such as the legendary producer Leon Sylvers, (of " The Sylvers" and Shalimar" fame) and the Dust Brothers, (producers of "Tone Loc,” "The Beastie Boys," "Young MC" and "Beck"), I developed an ear for what makes people dance. I got into electronic music through my association with The Dust Brothers and never looked back.

Working in clubs all over the world throughout the 90's, I began to rise through the ranks of LA and the doorway to success seemed only inches away. Then out of nowhere, a huge obstacle fell in my path and I was sidelined with severe kidney disease and forced to spend nine years in dialysis while I waited for  kidney transplant. I received my kidney transplant in February 2009 and now I'm celebrating the completion of a new album, releases on four top dance music labels so far this year, and work with Cash Money Records and Sony/BMG just to name a few.

My show is largely electronic, but I include organic drum elements as well as live guitar for the energy and spontaneous feel they provide. I want what I do to feel like a rock concert even when it's largely electronic. Think back to the feel of a James brown concert or a Prince or The Time concert. That's the feel and energy I'm after - great songs, positive message, and lots and lots of groove.
