Hear this sibling country duo at the next RAW showcase in Downtown Los Angeles at Elevate Lounge on Thursday, October 14th!

Successful brother and sister duos are a rarity when it comes to the music business. Although the family dynamic has certainly played an important role in plenty of artists’ careers, the straightforward brother-sister lineup is surprisingly hard to find. There’s the Osmonds, the Carpenters, mythical siblings the White Stripes… but for the most part, the arrangement is somewhat of an oddity. Perhaps that makes the ongoing story of Amanda and Travis Marsh all the more unique.
“Travis and I get along really well,” says Amanda, the easygoing California-girl and older sister. “He’s always supportive of me, and I’m supportive of him. The only time we have any kind of sibling rivalry is when we argue about who wrote what parts in the song!” she says, laughing.
“Sometimes Amanda forgets what I wrote and claims that she did it,” Travis explains. “She thinks anything that sounds good is something she wrote! I think she honestly just forgets,” he teases. “Seriously though, we get along great, and it makes working with each other that much more rewarding.”
Besides their musical career, the industrious siblings from Camarillo, California, have a number of projects that keep them busy when they aren’t writing, singing or recording together.
Though singer/songwriters Amanda and guitarist Travis have always been involved in each other’s music, they first realized their potential as a duo with the release of Amanda’s 2009 debut EP, “Love Is In the Details.” It was this project that scored a Mavric Music Award (Song of the Year: Collaboration) and paved the way for performances at Austin’s SXSW festival and the world’s biggest Country music event, the CMA Music Fest. That same year, both siblings beat out hundreds of applicants when they were selected as “Rock Your Fashion” artists. Amanda was paired with popular designer Betsey Johnson, while Travis was chosen for a Calvin Klein Jeans promotion.
Amanda and Travis are also endorsed by Daisy Rock Guitars. The pair made their acting debut, securing roles in the drama series, Anywhere. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Patrick Norris (Gossip Girls, Dawson’s Creek, Friday Night Lights), brother and sister not only star in the series, but also serve as the inspiration behind it, as the show follows a pair of sibling musicians named – you guessed it – Amanda and Travis. The duo is most excited about releasing a new album of duets.
Not surprisingly, the duo’s debut album is an accurate reflection of the two people that created it. Amanda cites bands like Fleetwood Mac and Lady Antebellum as influential in the style of music that she and Travis make, pointing out the success both bands have had incorporating male and female vocals. Musically, nothing is off limits when it comes to the creative process for the pair of siblings, with elements of rock, country, pop, indie rock and even hip-hop finding their way into the Amanda and Travis catalog. It’s this eclectic variety of influences that makes it difficult to pigeonhole their sound or style, something that brother and sister both attribute to their strong, yet opposite personalities.
“It’s kind of the thing that our music is based on – the idea of the yin and the yang,” Travis says.
Regardless of how one defines it, this multi-talented duo from California is poised to make history together in anything but typical “fashion.”
