ART: MISSFITS

Written by

My name is Inez Sanchez. I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I have always been very creative. My maternal grandmother taught me to sew at a very young age. We use to pick a dress out of a clothing catalog, make the pattern from brown paper bags and then sew it together. I am an avid quilter and love to sew in general. Sewing is my outlet in life and keeps me sane.

For the past year, I have been working on my MISSFITS art doll series. These are art dolls that I call "disturbingly different." They are a bit on the darkside without the blood and gore but somewhat humorous. I draw my inspiration for them from the Day of the Dead holiday, fantasy, the supernatural and books that I have read.

I work mostly with textiles and fabrics. I also like to upcycle used items by embellishing them with mixed media.

It is so rewarding to experience making something that is one of a kind.

I want to keep my creative juices flowing. I hope to find other outlets to sell and promote my art pieces.

Being showcased at RAW, gives me the opportunity to be a part of a group of artists that share the same goals.
