PHOTOGRAPHY: Christian Calipusan

When I was a kid, I already knew what I wanted to be and I wanted to be an artist.  I’ve been in different plays in theater back home in Guam when I was in high school.  Then I went to college and took some theater classes as an undecided for my major, until I decided to announce my major as Theater Performance.  When I moved to California as a Student Exchange, I took photography class for my elective and there I fell in love with it. Then I decided to art school that specializing in photography.

I am always fascinated of bringing the theater in my work. As a Theater Performance major before, I love giving my best performance in creating and recreating others concept and make it to my own style.  I also love directing my models of what emotion they can bring for my entire concepts and ideas in my shoot whether its beauty or fashion.  My models become my palette and my stage in order to bring a really great piece. As my instructor told me, I am very comfortable in both controlled and spontaneous shoot. Beauty and fashion are not just my typical specialty, as well as fine art photography. As of now, I am working in my Street Photography, which my subject is fashion and I want to publish it when I have enough photos to make it a book.

I never run out of ideas and when I think of an idea I always put it in my little book, from then I brainstorm and make it a solid concept.  Talking about my ideas to my friends always help me to tweak it around and make it interesting.  As I always explain, my work is not just beauty shot, there is always a concepts and ideas behind it.
