PERFORMING ART: Deonte Scott

Written by

I’m originally from the Robert Taylor Homes Projects located on the Southside of Chicago.  I was able to go away to college to better myself and I have yet to look back.  I got started writing poetry back in 1999, I was dating a young lady and I wanted to express to her how I felt about her.  I was alone in my room and I just started messing around with a notepad and before I knew it I had poem.  My first couple of poems were about love and relationships, I guess because I’m so expressive it came naturally to write how I felt on paper in a poetic fashion.  The more I wrote the more diverse my poems became, my style and inspiration is based on real life situations.  Mainly my life, but every now and again I see a situation that inspires me to write about it.

I write about the things that most people are afraid to discuss.  A lot of people experience controversy in their lives and they keep it a secret, I like to write about that stuff.  What I love most about what I do is the fact that I am able to be an inspiration through my words. To have someone say to me that my poetry touched them or helped them get through a tough situation is the best feeling anyone could ever experience.  In those moments I realize that I am walking in the purpose that God has laid out for me.

I have a poetry blog its www.thestoryofmymind.blogspot.com
