"Ripe": March's Fullerton Showcase

RAW said farewell to its beloved Fullerton venue, Cherch Lounge, the best way it knew how on March 18, 2010!

Fullerton’s March showcase at Cherch Lounge was certainly “Ripe” with up-and-coming artists in every scene. RAW filled the stage alone with great entertainment. The Victors–a local pop/rock band–brought the house-rocking music, and returning fashion designer and 2009 RAWards winner, Dane Lenon, introduced us to his latest project, a stunning collection of apparel.

As always, we filled the art space with fantastic work. Strung from wall to wall were Brittany Fowler’s photographs, connecting the roomful of talented painters–Willie Tarkington, Krystal Kittle, and Garrett Williams.

RAWartist Garrett Williams, with his own personal painted ode to the music legends, sold two of his paintings after the showcase.

But, as great as Cherch Lounge has been to us, it seems that we have outgrown our small OC home and are moving on over to the Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach.  Still, "Ripe" turned out to be a fantastic farewell to Fullerton (or maybe, just a 'see you later'); you've been good to us SoCo District, and for that we extend our thanks and invitation to join us as we continue in Orange County!

Be sure to come check out future Orange County RAW showcases at our newest venue, the Shorebreak Hotel, and support us as we continue in our plans to grow our presence in this place!

RAW's First Birthday!

RAW turned one and threw a great big birthday party to celebrate at the Angeleno Hotel!

Over one year ago, RAW was launched in Los Angeles, California. RAW's Mission: to promote and support artists of all kinds, all over Southern California and beyond, so that artists might have the tools for success and productivity,  and the resources needed to further their careers.

Here at RAW:natural born artists headquarters, we're happy to say "YEAR ONE: Mission Accomplished!"

Over 200 different RAW:artists in over ten different genres of art have rocked their way into the ears, eyes and hearts of our over 10,000 RAW patrons.

This past year, we launched two major websites, over 30 live showcases, in four different cities and a giant awards show in Hollywood (RAWards 2009).

With all these first year accomplishments, it only seemed right that we threw our “baby” a spectacular first birthday party with some of our very good friends and a lot of new ones! Our favorite mermaid, Linden Wolbert, graced the Angeleno pool, putting all guests partying on the deck in awe.

In Good Taste LA satisfied our sweet tooth with specially catered green velvet cupcakes. And the Green Bag Lady gave away eco-friendly totes to guests.

And with an amazing handful of artists, two great fashion designers, an energetic dance crew, and good ol' DJ Jason Jazz, RAW proved that it really knows how to celebrate a year in style.

It's been an incredible trip around the sun! And, still, we're ready for another. RAW will be tackling San Diego, Las Vegas and San Francisco in 2010.

Thanks to all of our artists and supporters who have gotten us through our first year!

"In Bloom" at Santa Monica

RAW's March Santa Monica Showcase, "In Bloom" — a real potpourri of art.

There's really no denying it, we sort of pride ourselves on our tendency to bring rather unconventional arts to the stage and, honestly, what's more marvelous than putting a tap dancer in a lounge? "In Bloom," RAW's March Santa Monica showcase (March 4, 2010)—what I would term a culmination of, more or less, a potpourri of artists—brought about a lot of unexpected acts.

Janet Huey and her crew of dancers shocked us all with her energetic marathon of moves, a mash-up of tap, contemporary, and jazz. And only in such an eclectic show as this would we find Nate Hogan, or Nature Dreamweaver, was an artist who made an in-site installation out of only organic materials, a sort of botanical mural on the floor of the art space. And, well, don't even get me started on Lorena Nicole, our Selena-esque Latin American pop singer (the gal doesn't speak Spanish) who belted out an impressive vocal set.

What with such a variety of artists, going to a showcase like "In Bloom" is like attending several different events ... well, without actually having to.
