Visual Art – New Orleans

I am a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Returning home after Hurricane Katrina was a shock; the devastation was so massive that it didn’t seem possible for New Orleans to recover. I love this City, and I was determined to help my community become even better than it was before the storm and flooding. Since 2005 I have picked up several tons of debris from the streets. Additionally, I helped gut and rebuild many homes and instead of throwing away damaged wood and other architecture, I used what I could to create unique art. My art tells a story of transformation. All of the elements I find and use once had a purpose. They were discarded as trash, yet were able to be re-purposed into works of art that incorporate local themes that represent New Orleans culture.
