Peg & Plum by Elizabeth Crust

Visual Art – Minneapolis

My name is Elizabeth Crust, and I have had a lifelong obsession with tiny, cute things. If you knew me as a child, you knew I always had a little something in the palm of my hand or hidden in my pocket. If you know me as an adult...you see that I\'m still pretty much the same! In private elementary, I often got into trouble for doodling little people down the sides of all my paper work. In high school, I was fortunate to be able to attend the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley. I didn\'t get into trouble there! At 18 yrs old, I went on an adventure to Los Angeles to study fashion design at FIDM. Along the way I discovered a love and talent for small sculpture. I also discovered that the fashion scene in Los Angeles was much too brutal for a mouse like myself. What was a girl to do? Keep making tiny things of course... 6 years ago, when my daughter was 2 yrs old, I painted her a set of wooden peg dolls. She is clever and immediately named them \"Peg\" and \"Plum.\" I\'ve pretty much been indulging the child in my mind ever since! She gets no time outs...I don\'t stop her. She just paints and paints all the tiny things. It\'s grand, ain\'t it? I never really wanted to grow up anyways, so I feel like one darn lucky gal being able to do what I like all the time!
