Visual Art – Houston

Pedro Guevara was born in Cali, Colombia. He immigrated to the United States in 1985 and has lived in South Carolina and Texas, and now lives in the Houston area. Pedro is formally educated in Psychology and Nursing. Pedro was always interested in art and self expression; as child he enjoyed drawing, and as an adolescent he became interested in poetry; but art has always been his primary interest. When he entered college he took his first painting class. It was here that his unique style began to develop. Pedro’s style is design to assault the viewer’s eyes with bright colors and smooth lines; yet his paintings depict serene images. Although he continued to paint on and off, Pedro concentrated in obtaining his Psychology degree at the University of Houston. Pedro worked in the field of Psychology for a few years, but found that Psychology wasn’t for him. Pedro went to nursing school and obtained his license in 2009. In 2010 Pedro began volunteering at Methodist Hospital. As a volunteer at Methodist Hospital, Pedro draws for the patients. After volunteering for a couple of weeks he started painting again. His early paintings were based on his volunteer drawings. His more recent paintings have refined his style and broaden the subject matter. But at the root of all his original paintings is a personal experience or an emotion that serve as his inspiration.
