Postina was just named “2011 Musician of the Year by RAW Minneapolis”!
“Minneapolis alternarockers Postina rose to fame in the summer of 2009 when they made the finals of the Cities 97 Basilica Block Party Battle of the Bands competition only six short months after having formed. With thoughtful songwriting and energetic pop hooks, the quartet's sound is defined by the delicate vocals of Joelle Benson and prominent bass lines of Josh Walton. Quickly capitalizing on their initial success, the band headed to the recording studio last fall to cut their first record. The result is The Road, a six-song EP which ought to provide the next step in the band's forward progress.” - Jeff Gage, City Pages
As for the rest of the band – Andy Root’s well-crafted guitar parts and compelling lyrics convey the depth of experience the band has lived, Dave Donovan plays the drums with an unmistakable finesse and brilliance that brings intensity to the music, in 2010 Postina welcomed Dylan Randolph, whose electronic-synth style and memorable counter melodies complement the Postina alterna-rock sound. At the end of 2011 violinist/backing vocalist Faith Eskola began performing with Postina, adding a dramatic, classical element which contrasts nicely with the band’s electronica/alternative rock sound.
Postina’s performance extends beyond music as painter/artist Erica Williams has also recently joined Postina on stage painting live during their set making the live experience even more visually compelling by bringing together two synergistic forms of art.
Postina released their debut EP, The Road in March 2010. The Road is a collection of six original songs, each a story inspired by personal struggle or triumph. Postina’s music conveys deep emotion and the band’s determination to experience the fullness of life.
Nero, Postina’s sophomore effort released in October of 2011 exemplifies the further musical development of the quintet's signature female vocal, electronic, alterna-rock sound. The 2nd track on the album “Heart in Mine” was featured in the Twin Cities Film Festival trailer in September 2010. The Road and Nero are available on iTunes.
Postina has performed at The Fine Line Music Cafe, The Cabooze, Turf Club, 400 Bar, Whiskey Junction, Lake Harriet Bandshell, Club Underground, O’Gara’s, Uptown Bar, Acadia Café, Bogart’s, Suburban World Theater, the Plaza Palooza music festival, The Twin Cities Film Fest fundraiser at West End as well as the RAW Minneapolis Showcase & RAW Minneapolis Awards Show. Postina's CD Release will be at First Ave's 7th St Entry on January 27th, 2012.
