Pursuing

Accessories – Nashville

There are no unredeemable circumstances. No experience, place, sorrow, disappointment, tragedy or pain lies outside the scope of being used to bring hope, good, and new purpose. Pursuing expresses this belief in the creation of handbags, purses, and personal accessories. Unused, re-used, worn out, discarded, unwanted or leftover materials are hand selected to create the handbags, purses or accessories that individually express the promise of what can happen when items are redeemed for a new purpose. Pursuing works from recycled hardware and re-purposing of textiles from a broad spectrum such as drapery, upholstery, clothing, and linens. Each piece is conceptualized and constructed to uniquely express the story, style, and spirit of the materials presented in the work. Sara began sewing at the age of 10 making doll clothes. She has continued to discover the creative possibilities that develop as difficult spaces, sorrows and disappointments are redeemed and dabbles in water color, and graphite. In the fall of 2011, an unexpected and devastating job loss resulted in a reduction of the family income by 75%. Pursuing was born out of this trial and settling into melding art with sewing. Textiles have become her canvas and creating bags and accessories by redeeming, recycling and repurposing materials for one- of-a-kind bags is her medium for expressing the possibilities of difficulty.
