Visual Art – Madison

I graduated from Macalester College in 2011 with a B.A. in Art History. Since then I have been creating artwork in order to improve on my craft. For the most part, my formal education in studio art comes from the studio classes I took in college. My major influence and interest in abstract art stems from a class I took in Panama with a well-known artist Chirú. I spent one summer after high school in Panama and my host family enrolled me into art classes with Chirú. He works as an abstract artist, purely enthralled with the application of color on canvas and the movement of shapes and lines; the subject matter came second or not at all. It was then that I realized how I can use acrylic paints to create texture and layers in order to add depth in my work. I am dedicated to learning and improving my skills as an abstract painter. However, after taking classes in graphic and web design, I would like to explore the use of different mediums. Currently I am preparing to apply to a graduate M.A. or M.F.A. program. In order to accomplish this I am developing my portfolio, networking with local artists, volunteering in art programs in Madison, and researching artists who work in my related medium.
