Visual Art – Portland

I am from Portland, Oregon, and have lived and traveled all over the world. I have a Master's degree in Anthropology from Florida International University, focusing on queer theory, transgender storytelling, and systemic power. I hope, as a teacher, to embody an attitude towards education that rejects the categorizing rigidity of many university philosophies in favor of abstract and nonlinear reasoning, embracing the bizarre nature of phenomena, and generally reveling in the messiness of the world around us. My art also draws on the ideas of chaos, schizophrenic processes and objects, and the paradoxes of simplicity;complexity and order;randomness. I strongly believe that blunders and mistakes will guide my work in new and wonderful directions; marking lines where I intended emptiness, smudges where I wanted precision. I follow my artistic process to the final piece--no underlying message or narrative is intended, though these often arise for viewers and it is fascinating to see the meaning that others find in my work.
