Visual Art – New Orleans

It all started on a life-changing trip to Thailand with my best friend last Thanksgiving. I took such beautiful, unique photos and wanted an equally beautiful, unique way to display them in my apartment. I found a rustic old window at a salvaged materials warehouse that I thought would be perfect. I loved that it had been abandoned and that I could give it a new purpose - breathe life into it once again. Since then, I\'ve continued to find one-of-a-kind windows around town. Each of these windows has a story and offers a look into the past. I believe that many of them belonged to gorgeous, old houses that were flooded during Katrina and demolished when their owners never returned. I take great pride in sanding them down, getting rid of all the chipped paint and sharp edges, polishing the wood, replacing missing panes, and waxing them till they are as smooth as butter. Oftentimes, the most beautiful colors were covered up and through the sanding process, they reveal themselves once more. This is my favorite part - discovering what lies beneath. In short, the windows that give us a glimpse into the past can be transformed to offer a look into the present and even the future. Valuable lessons or life-changing events are never far away - they\'re just on the other side of the glass. Lately, I\'ve also been experimenting with regular and high-flow acrylics, charcoal, oil pastels, watercolor, collage, and resin as well.
