ART: Coldie

My affinity for music and art have collided in my first series of fine art works. Vinyl record UFOs hovering over urban landscapes, shooting gold lasers. It's about digital media and how the real thing will always reign supreme. It's about remembering what came before us. It’s about nothing at all. My scenes showcase struggle. Nature and city, man and animal, real and surreal.

The process of creating this series of art is where I have found the most enjoyment. Working with stereoscopic graphics has forced me to consider depth in my compositions. Transferring digital daydreams onto canvas using experimental techniques has created unexpected results. Delicate and temperamental materials have allowed me to create distress and personality. The imperfection of my art is the perfection I strive for. Rips, burns and tears create solutions that are process oriented and less contrived. My main goal is to create art that looks like it has stood the test of time and speaks as a vision from the future, as imperfect as it will be.

The creations I make are simply reactions from what goes on inside my brain. Some are instant thoughts that I spit out without consideration, others are calculated and meticulously planned. No matter the case, they are real and putting them on canvas is their evidence. The less I think and plan the better. Finding trust in intuition and the unknown drives me to continue. When I started my first piece I didn't know what I was doing. It just felt right. If I do figure it out, I'll probably move onto something else.

Besides fine art, I write, sing, shoot 3D concert photography, graphic design, entrepreneur and think about ways to make it all come true. Check my commercial design work at ryancolditz.com
