Visual Art – Atlanta

I grew up in a very small town in Tennessee. I was raised by my grandparents for the first 8 years of my life because my dad was abusive and my mom, even though it wasn\'t her fault, was institutionalized a lot. I started drawing as a way to deal. I haven\'t stopped since. When I was 18, I joined the army, to get away from my dad- and during that time, art was the only thing that set me apart in a sea full of conformity. It\'s the only thing that I had at times to teach me that I was worth loving. A lot of my art now is very political and neon and inspired by Native American symbols and machines. I try and channel things that you wouldn\'t think would fit together into something that really flows and might be a heavy topic, but is presented with such optimism and color. I feel that the style I have perfected represents who I am. Someone full of hope and the willingness to survive.
