Photography – Los Angeles

I'm an Ohioan living in LA. I've lived here for 12 years now - and it has been quite an adventure. I took a few black and white medium format film photography classes when I was younger and fell in love with it. When I could afford to I decided to build a home lab. I do my own developing and printing at home. One of the first things I noticed about photography is that it marries two distinctly opposite sides of my personality - the technical/analytical half and my creative half. And by bringing these two halves together I'm made whole. Nowadays, when I need to get anyway I grab my camera or setup my lab and tune everything else out. LA has a lot of beautiful architecture - This tends to be my focus. As often as I can, I like to capture motion or capture the image in a slightly different way by using different films and filters. Many don't even notice the car reflection captured in 6th street bridge photograph. Photography grounds me and helps me to get out of myself. It helps me create something that only I see. A moment in time. A day that will never be again. A tangible thing that reminds me not just of the day I took the picture but of what was happening in my life at the time. A photograph for me is so much more than the object captured...Its a part of me.
