Custom Beaded Jewelry by Shawna Floistad

Accessories – Portland

Beading has been a hobby of mine since 2005. I started out by taking a basic stringing class with my mom at the local craft store thinking beading would be something fun we could do together. She has since given up beading, but my beading has snowballed from there. Along the way I took a pearl knotting class & a wire-working class, and by 2009 had developed enough confidence to start selling my creations to my friends, family and co-workers. I wasn't much of a necklaces person prior to learning to bead, but have always been into clothes and jewelry. I prefer pieces in both categories that I can continue to wear as styles change time and time again. I wear necklaces almost all of the time now. They really can complement anything from the casual to the formal outfit. By offering items at what I believe are affordable prices, I hope that others will do the same and realize their versatility. You really can wear that favorite pair of jeans with anything! My favorite part of the jewelry making process is the design stage. Putting creativity into action has been really rewarding and almost therapeutic for me. Since I am a full-time pension consultant by day and a parent to 4 kids (2 four-leggeds and 2 two-leggeds), I've found that beading (and gardening) are really necessary to keep me sane. When I am not working, beading or gardening, I enjoy running, hiking, being the social organizer to keep in touch with our friends, spending time w/ my dogs and eating chocolate.
