Photography – Vancouver

Digital cowboy trying to return to an analogue country. I returned to analogue photography as a way of simplifying my work and focusing my vision. But as soon as i did it was like returning home. The feel of the film and the smell were like an immediate connection to my past. The look of the film and the process, the uncertainty, the need to decide before pulling the trigger on what I wanted to say forces me to slow down and find something different. As a wedding photographer I look for the moments between moments to capture the humans present. As a portrait photographer I look for the difference in the person that makes them unique. As a street photographer I look to be present but detached. Photography is a life long exercise in increasing and diminishing confidence; as you improve you like your work less. As a digital photography I would shoot 200 photos and keep 5. When shooting a 36 roll of film I keep 10. Medium format with 12 shots? Sometimes I like all of them. Some times none. I hope I never become comfortable with my work.
