My name is Morgan Mangiaruga and was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. I am a 22 year old recent graduate from Millersville University, receiving my BFA, with an emphasis in Sculpture. Being a twin and the eldest of four, I am constantly seeking ways to differentiate myself. This search has been the backboard and stimulation for my recent work and directly relates to social behaviors of people in general. My work deals with the beautiful decay of the shadows that we mask from the world, exposing our true selves and the beauty in our imperfections. I am depicting the power of collective and its influence on the individual and how one’s identity is shaped through personal discovery. My pieces blur boundaries, question vulnerability and strength, while challenging notions of the “second skin.” Ultimately, my work deals with unmasking and showing the beauty and horror that comes hand-in-hand with our human nature.
