Jeff Brawn

Visual Art – St. Louis

Jeff Brawn was, like so many, born to parents. Then he grew up—sort of. His approach to art reveals that there is an inner child there who still does much of the driving. He refuses to stick to one medium, but rather feels free to use any tools, techniques and materials his imagination leads him to, with total disregard for what came before. If there is anything that is an absolute constant in his work (and there isn\'t) it is that his work is narrative. He doesn\'t like to be asked \"what he does,\" because he\'s never been able to come up with a suitable answer, but if pushed, he will say \"storyteller.\" He writes, but his paintings are stories as well. \"Storytelling is a relationship,\" he says. \"I do one part and the observer does the other part. It takes two imaginations to make it work.\" Then he usually apologizes for sounding pretentious. He apologizes a lot--to the point of being annoying really. He is, of course, sorry for this.
