Visual Art – Raleigh

Sulzhan is a scientist by training, a painter by passion, and a photographer by heart. She has traveled extensively and lived in 5 different cities, spanning 3 continents over the last 6 years. These places have had a significant imprint on her work and continue to be instrumental in shaping her creativity. Sulzhan began her artistic self-discovery at the tender age of two when her parents first gave her a paintbrush to paint. After all, many a love affair commence with a single stroke. Growing up in India, a midst a riot of colors, sights, and sounds; Sulzhan developed her distinctive style of painting portraits in water-colors at the young age of 12 years under the tutelage of artist Shuchi Krishan. A 10 year hiatus from painting followed as Sulzhan studied Microbiology in India & the U.K. It was in 2012 towards the tail end of her Ph.D. studies in Oxford, that she once again picked up her paintbrush. Sitting in a cafe by Oxford\'s Broad Street and overlooking the magnificent Sheldonian Theatre, Sulzhan started to re-discover her love of art. What began as a rediscovery of an old hobby, soon became a habit, and eventually represented a deep passion. Sulzhan has not since looked back and continues to experiment with textures, colours and mediums. http://www.sulzhan.com/
