The Alligator Republic

Music – San Diego

The Alligator Republic is a four-piece rock ensemble based out of San Diego and Los Angeles, California. Members include: Chiko Medina (Vocals/Guitars), Jonathan Buchan (Guitars), Donovan Hernandez (Bass/Keys/Vocals) and Gorge Ortega (Drums/Percussion programming). History between the band members traces back to their high school days, where similar interests and musical tastes compelled them to begin jamming together. The four of them have survived several incarnations, numerous other projects and line-up changes in the last decade. In early 2010, Ortega contacted Hernandez (now based out of Los Angeles) about working together on some tracks he had been writing over the previous year. Soon thereafter the two began tinkering with and crafting the tracks from the ground up. Strong inflections of Electronica and New Wave reside in the tracks, since the bulk of them were initially conceived in Ortega\'s home-based MIDI studio. As rehearsals and writing sessions between Los Angeles and San Diego continued, Ortega and Hernandez decided the project was in need of a lineup expansion to proceed as intended. In September, 2010 Chiko Medina joined the rhythm section as a guitarist, after which the three-piece continued to rehearse between San Diego and Los Angeles. Jonathan Buchan joined the band as a second guitarist in May 2011 and The Alligator Republic was officially formed. As a four-piece instrumental band The Alligator Republic continued traveling between L.A and San Diego for rehearsal sessions, and cutting pre-production demos at Capricorn studios. Their first show was played at Bar Eleven in San Diego, on September 23,
