The Arc of the Capital Area

Visual Art – Austin

The Arc of the Arts Studio & Gallery program is offered by The Arc of the Capital Area and is a place where artists explore their own art process and learn new skills that offer a pathway to inclusion for disabled individuals on many levels. The creative and compassionate staff, interns and volunteers facilitate a post-secondary curriculum which explores art, music, performance and digital media. The artists learn job skills, increase self-esteem and gain a strong sense of self-worth. Our core belief is that all people, regardless of ability, have a unique artistic voice and that each artist’s unique perspective of the world is reflected in their works of art. The Arc of the Arts is a place of warmth and creativity, where artists have the freedom to work at their own pace, learn new skills and come one step closer to realizing their dreams of independence. We professionally exhibit and market artwork created at the studio, thus allowing the public to view the amazing outflow of creativity from the artists as well as the opportunity to develop a customized employment program that promotes client directed goals and self-determination. One of the main goals of the program is to provide a bridge between our community and the greater Austin community. We promote social inclusion and increase access to non-segregated activities for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
