The Magpie Collections

Accessories – New Orleans

The magpie is notorious for taking and stashing shiny objects in her nest. Much like the magpie, I am drawn to anything that sparkles, really gravitating to the treasures found in nature. Growing up, my mother had the duty of emptying my pockets before washing my clothes (that\'s my boyfriend\'s duty now, not much has changed) and eventually she grew tired of pulling out shells, feathers, rocks, and acorns from the washing machine- almost as tired as I grew from not having those treasures returned afterward. I later learned that others didn\'t share the same feeling of endless potential in these collections, and that it was my job to manipulate what we pass by or even step on everyday, and give them beauty and a new purpose. To this day you can find stones, beads, and shells collected and cherished from my child hood scurragings in my designs. When I\'m not living in la la land where I can create to no end and bills are nonexistent, you can find me at the University of New Orleans full time attaining my degree in International Studies and working nights as a bartender slingin\' hooch at Republic in the Central Business District.
