The M.A.R.S. Lab

Accessories – Honolulu

I have never not made things My story is simple. I make things... beautiful, strange, lovable things. My mother put me in my first craft fair at 10 years old because I had a Caboodles case of handmade jewelry. I can\'t remember if I made a sale or not, but I loved being an artist. I went to college for photography, then fashion design. Now, I hang out in The MARS Lab as much as possible. I began up cycling before it was called up cycling and I\'ve always collected miscellany because … Someday…. The M.A.R.S. Lab came to be shortly after my husband and I moved to Oahu. We left our tiny studio apt in San Francisco behind, and got lost in the openness and magic of Hawaii. I was recharged artistically and finally had the space to create. My older brother is a police officer, and once when I went with him to shoot, I found myself running around collecting the empty bullet shells; back home I knew I had a bunch of quartz crystals that would find a happy home in these empty shells. The more necklaces I made, the more people wanted them. Another element that came with me from the Bay Area was a giant bag of reclaimed leather; I love combining it with chain to create unique pieces. My own style combines that of tough and feminine, attitude with adorable. I hope this comes through in my designs, all of my gratitude.
