The New Seven is an indie/folk group from Milwaukee, Wisconsin whose progressive songwriting style, lush vocals, and intricate melodies always leave listeners on their toes.
The group was formed in early 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Tony Smith and former mandolin player Jeff Purcell. After recovering from a devastating hand injury, Tony took his demos to Jeff, and eventually bassist Tim Koehler and vocalist Morgan Montesanto. The New Seven was formed, but after several months, Jeff moved to Montana. Without Jeff their style evolved, and the initial bluegrass sound was replaced with an avant-garde take on folk music. Nick Lang (percussion) came into the picture in October and quickly ended up a crucial part of the group.
The final lineup of this young band has lead to captivating live shows, a music video, and an upcoming album to be recorded in December. Keep your eyes and ears open to the boundless sounds of The New Seven.
