Performing Art – New York - Brooklyn

I was born in San Diego and spent the first few years of my life on the island of Lanai, Hawaii. However, I spent the majority of my upbringing back in San Diego as my parents had difficulty finding work on such a small island. When I was 9, my parents enrolled me in a tap class at a local recreation center. It came very easily to me and I advanced quite quickly. From there I went on to study jazz, ballet, modern, hip hop and various styles of world dance. After training throughout my high school experience, I still wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do. I studied at a few community colleges in San Diego for 3 years and still felt lost and confused. But I knew I loved to dance. So I decided to apply to a summer program at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. I got in, bought a one way ticket, did the program, and I decided to stay in New York. I didn't know exactly what I was getting myself into. What I did know was I couldn't go back home. I needed to keep growing. Fast forward another 3 years and I am much more certain that I am just where I need to be. I have a long way to go, I'm quite sure of that. But in the meantime, I'd like to challenge myself and give myself the opportunity to create and share. This is for me and for others around me.
