Visual Art – San Francisco
My name is Jason Alvarado and I am 24 years old. I am originally from a tiny town near Fresno, CA. I came to San Francisco in 2012 to pursue my bachelors degree in psychology. During my time in college I was going through a rough and dark time dealing with depression and anxiety. It was then where I felt like I needed an escape, a way to cope, a way to release everything I was feeling in my head. That is when I started to draw. Drawing helped me express my emotions in a healthy way and helped me better understand myself. It helped me create my own world where everyone understood the pain. It provided me with a reason to keep going and seeing where I could go. I still struggle with mental health and I’m glad that art exists to help. I hope my art can help someone the way other people’s art has helped me.
