Caroline Yim\'s exposure to the ancient art of jewelry making dates back to her childhood in the gritty neighborhoods of 1980’s New York City. Her father, a self-taught gemologist and businessman in the city’s diamond district, hand crafted some of the first pieces Caroline ever admired—gifts to his wife, amulets Caroline would eventually inherit and treasure. When Caroline and her family transplant to the Bay Area in 1991 a new influence is introduced. The natural beauty of northern California, its lush colors and rich textures, start to beautifully complicate Caroline’s aesthetic and way of being. Two-spirited—masculine and feminine, soft and hard—she would always embody the urban streets of the diamond district and the untouched landscapes of the bay.
