Favorite Thing
about RAW:
my favorite thing about RAW is how it supports my motto: collaborators always fare better than competitors.Favorite Thing in the Whole Wide World:
french fries.Fueled by young spirit and old soul, Connie Lim pens music she calls “retrotronica”: nostalgic songwriting intertwined with electronica sentiments.
Connie Lim is a 24 year-old, Los Angeles based singer/songwriter who was born in Hollywood and raised in Palos Verdes, California. Lim found her love for music at the young age of 8 when she discovered her ability to write music. Lim continued to make music but never considered breaking from her traditional upbringing. In the midst of studying at UC Berkeley she decided she would pursue music full time. Within a year Lim recorded her first EP, Shifting, and after building a loyal folowing in the Bay Area, she moved down to experience Los Angeles. Over the past two years, Lim’s fan-base has steadily grown. Inspired by artists such as Imogen Heap, Feist, and Natalie Merchant, Lim continues to research music from around the world to create her unique sound.
Connie Lim in the Media
Upon the release of her second EP The Hunted and her first music video for “Sugar”, Lim has gained attention from various media outlets including NBC-LA, KSCI-TV, KPCRadio.com, and Entertainment Today Online. MTV Iggy proclaims her music video as “a work of art” while Flavorpill.com describes Lim to be “armed with a brilliant voice that is both vulnerable and mighty”. Flavorpill.com also raves over the “fluidity of relationship and social structures through the momentum of moody strings, lush piano, and electronic textures…an intimate and unselfconscious performer [whose] songs will literally bloom in front of you”.
Venues
Lim has performed at a number of venues, including The Viper Room, Hotel Café, The House of Blues, the Shrine Auditorium, and Hotel Utah. She has shared the stage with artists such as Goapele David Choi, and Colby O’Donis.
Songwriting and Lyrics
Lim extracts her inspiration from the people around her; From Berkeley to Los Angeles, Lim has treated every place as a new opportunity to learn and grow. Her recent EP tells of how she has noticed that “we are all hunted, or the underdog, in some way or another. I sing for that side within each of us.”
