Founder, Emily Dureault, graduated from California State University Long Beach in May 2008 with a B.A Textiles and Clothing. She always dreamed of starting a clothing company. Through participating in many jobs in the industry she experienced the massive waste that large companies produce. This conflicted with her passion for the environment and her love for fashion. This confliction, lead to the journey of entrepreneurism. After careful consideration for the environment and design, Into the Woods Clothing was born 2009.

In order to reduce the fashion industries carbon footprint Into the Woods uses used/donated clothing to create their designs. The garments are purchased from Salvation Army and local thrift stores then deconstructed and reconstructed into new modern garments. ITW’s philosophy follows “recycle, reuse, renew”. Materials are not wasted; each scrap is used as a label, embellishment or jewelry.

Emily also wants to allow the customer to be a part of the design process and see their garment go through the transition. They will have the opportunity to consult with designers and to add their own specifications to their garment. Therefore each custom piece will reflect the customer’s unique individual style and creativity.

The name Into the Woods comes from Emily’s own personal love of trees and how each tree is unique and individual. Each tree represents each garment. Each original garment is transformed into a new unique piece. The whole collection consists of an array of individualism just like the trees in the woods. The goal of Into the Woods is to reduce our negative impact on the environment and to use the smallest amount of new resources possible. We hope our message will help spread preservation of the environment.
