| Have you seen that guy? He sits in the back of the class; very quiet but, when he does open his mouth, he's wickedly glib. His hair is fire engine red and he utilizes a uniform of a long-sleeved camoflage thermal T, distressed jeans and lizard green canvas kicks. If you asked him, he would tell you that he spent the weekend skateboarding. What he's not telling you is that he's a straight A student--that he's on the Deans List--that he's going to enlist in the Navy to be a Master of Arms (military cop).
What I love about Fashion is that IT DOES NOT DEFINE YOU. Fashion is the most common medium of personal expression; it is a platform on which each of creates the impression we choose--often on a daily basis. I've been designing ever since I was 8 yr. old--illustrating entire wardrobes for the characters in my favorite books. Menswear appeals to me largely in its complexity--there is such defined box from within a designer can work (opposed to women's clothing where you can drape a sheet on a tall, pretty girl, belt it, and it'd still be socially acceptable attire). I'm terribly inspired by menswear in Japan; my goal is to further that masculine Eastern mode--to create a style that is both comfortable and fashion-forward. If any guy from any walk of life could take my vision and use it to create their own unique statement....I'd like to equate this with saving the world. |
