Visual Art – Baltimore

Wally grew up in the small town of Canton, NY where he learned to play soccer, ice hockey, golf, and became an earth science enthusiast with the support and guidance of his mentor’s Mr. Jim Chisholm, Dr. James Street, and his father, Dr. Jim Wallace. After high school, Wally earned an undergraduate degree in Geology from Hartwick College, and a Master’s degree in Earth Sciences from The University of Northern Colorado and has since been a professional middle school science teacher for 17 years now at both Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC and Gilman School in Baltimore, MD. Five years ago, Wally became inspired to use his Global Positioning System device in an nontraditional way to create massive digital images while riding his mountain bike around Baltimore. His original images were so much fun that a website was born to share his work and the entire process. It wasn’t long before the site began to generate attention from a variety of media sources. Since then, WallyGPX.com has been viewed internationally by thousands of fans, and has inspired a variety of others to join the fun and find their own ways to blend technology with creativity and exercise. He has finished six complete seasons of images for a total of 293 creations, and is currently working on plans for a seventh season of virtual geoglyphic adventure.
